Hey members! Heads-up!
I know you are all probably anxiously trying to meet your assignment deadlines and all but why not spare some time to come for our last activity for this semester!

This time, the club is proud to invite Mr. Foo Yoke Pin, the Executive Director of the MICPA qualification himself, as well as Ms. Lee How Lai, one of the MICPA’s Examination Officers! IF you think the MICPA is only secondary to all other accounting qualifications out there, THINK AGAIN.

Which other professional do you know that:
i) consist of only 1 exam with 5 modules
ii) allows you to gain 2 titles with the completion of just one paper
iii) allows you obtain the ACCA title by taking just 1 more paper
iv) allows you to have a shorter pathway towards the ICAEW
v) allows you to obtain the CFiA (Certified Financial Accountant)

If you see yourself scaling the corporate ladder in Malaysia, this professional qualification will probably allow you to do just that! This is a great opportunity for students who have not heard of the MICPA and would like to gain some insight and information on the requirements of becoming part of the MICPA.

hi guys,
lasst week we held ICAEW talk and it was a great success..!!
hehe im really proud with the event although i came late >.< so sry (the photos arent with me, it will be upload soon)
anyway, i have good news about our next event that will be hold next week ^^
but first, we will have our 3rd Emergency General Meeting since some ppl resigning;

MACC's EGM!

Dear members,
this is a confirmed notification of the emergency general meeting (EGM). Details are as follows:

Date : Thursday, 27th August 2009
Time : 5-6.30pm

The EGM will be held to conduct a re-election for the post of the club's

2. Assistant Activities Coordinator 2

Those who are interested in running for the aforementioned posts are strongly encouraged to attend the EGM as nominations and elections will be held on that day itself. It will also be preferable if nominees will be continuing their studies at the Monash University Sunway Campus until June 2010.

If you are unsure of the responsibilities/roles of the posts, feel free to contact Loh Siew May (014-6553231) or Lim Yen Vern (017-2881909) for more details.

All club members are also urged to attend this AGM to exercise their nominating and voting rights and a point of attendance will be awarded to those who attend the EGM.

Well, if you have received the e-mail, you will know that we will be organizing a charity trip this weekend! Therefore, we will really appreciate it if you can lend a hand in donating to the home. We will be setting up a booth to accept donations in the form of cash or other items (stationery, clothing, books, canned food, etc.) on Monday to Friday (18th to the 22nd of August) from 12pm to 2pm. Please help to spread this new around amongst your friends. =D

Moreover, if you are interested in joining us for this meaningful trip, drop by at our booth for registration and more information. Non-members are also allowed to join us in this trip but there are only 10 spots left, so register fast! ^^

I want to thank my beloved committee for putting 110% effort into whatever they do. It has been an honour and pleasure working with them and thank you for your effort and commitment you have put into this club and thank you for having to bear with my tantrums. I sincerely appreciated all that you guys did.

I also want to thank all the members of this club for supporting us so far and I hope that you will continue to support the new committee and the club. I also want to sincerely apologise to the members if the club have not been up to your expectation.

I want to give the new committees my blessings and I hope for the best for the new committee and the club. Uh- ermm! Attention please...everyone
There will be an MACC booth next week during the CnS week from 27th July (Mon) to 31st of July(Fri) from 10 am-2pm. Please check out our booth. (I put a lot of effort in the notice board! Come and admire!) Hopefully you guys will find our club interesting. For those of you who are interested to join our club, I have put forth a few reasons for u to join our club:

REASONS TO JOIN THE MACC CLUB
1. Boost your resume
2. We are affiliated with the professional accounting bodies such as CPA, CIMA, ACCA and ICAEW.
3. We work very closely with the BigFour to organize talks, workshops, office visits and other events. (So…u can get some contacts from me…shhh!!!)
4. Meet many interesting ppl as we have over 100 members.
5. We have a lot of hot chicks member and u can meet with some of them in perhaps the next networking party.
6. The committee members are very committed to make all our planned events a success.
7. Lastly, we believe in what we do.

Other than that, we require existing members to volunteers to help to tend the booth. 2 points will rewarded per hour and maximum 8 points will be given to a particular members. These accumulated points would determine whether you will be rewarded a certificate and this certificate will be useful in marketing yourself to your prospective employers especially to the accounting firms.
There will be emails sent to the members which consist of the duty list for the cns week. Kindly fill it up. See you then.

Holiday comeback!!

On behalf of MACC, I would like to welcome back the old existing students after a "replenishing" holiday of only three weeks (Way way too short… Not enuf… Haiz) but anyways welcome back and get ready to start another sem of hectic assignments and sleepless nites.

For the new student
I want to share a new experience with u: When I was a buddy, I have always greeted the buddees with “Welcome to Monash and hope u find Monash experience interesting for u” with a big smile. I sincerely hope to find ppl enjoying their university lives but I knew that the buddees do not know wat lies ahead of Monash. But with effort + commitment + zest + sucky cafeteria food + dark circles - cute guys – crazy parties, I believe that you would all turn out alrite. KPMG Office Trip
Wonder how is it like to work in a Big Four? Want to get a glimpse how they operate? Now, here is your chance. This office trip intends to help the students understand the culture of accounting firms and give an early glimpse on what awaits you after your graduation. The details are stated as below:

Time : 1.00pm – 5.00pm, depart from Monash at 1.00pm

KPMG Interview Workshop
This workshop aims to help you to ace interviews and win the hearts of employers; increase your chances of employment by sharing practical resume and interview tips. Furthermore, you can bring in your resume to be evaluated by the experts. The details are stated as below.

Time : 2.00pm – 4.00pm; with a refreshment session after the talk

Strongly Recommended: Accounting Workshop

Good news, everyone! MACC will be organizing "Accounting Workshop" so that the first year first semester students can get some basic accounting knowledge including posting transaction from journals to ledgers; preparing profit & loss statement and balance sheet. Not everyone goes through basic foundation in accounting; therefore, they will encounter difficulties in Accounting A unit as the unit is fast-paced and they do not wait for you to know how to do debits and credits. Here, your seniors will teach you to do accounting step-by-step; this will help you to build a strong foundation if you are major in accounting. Plus, it is FREE!!! No fees will be charged.
The detail is as follows:-

Date: 28 March 2009, Saturday
Time: 9am-1pm
Venue: Exam hall, Building 2 Level 6

We will also require senior students to volunteer themselves to teach the junior. In order to qualify, the seniors have to complete Accounting A, Accounting B and obtained at least a credit in both of the papers. If you are interested to be a senior, please send an email including your name, student ID, phone number and your academic results to monashaccounting@yahoo.com strictly before 25 March 2009, Wednesday at 5 pm. Trainning will be provided; Certificate will also be awarded to the seniors who help out.

Is it just me or did the mid-semester break just flew past? Before you know it, you are back in lecture theaters and attending tutorials. Anyways, I hope everyone had a good break. =)

So the week before the mid-semester break was our charity drive week, and here are some of the pictures taken from Beekhin, one of our sweet activities person.

On behalf of MACC, a big THANK YOU to all who supported and bought the puffs, making the charity drive really successful, allowing us to sell every single puffs daily without fail. We are really sorry for some of the students who couldn't get some of the puffs due to extreme demands. Maybe next time, just cross your fingers. =)

CPA Australia internship program

Hi all, today we got an interesting news from CPA Australia... guess what? it is an internship program offered for CPA passport students. YeaH..!!

Here is what Mr Gerald Fernandez, Manager, member relations & development CPA Australia - Malaysia division stated in his e-mail,

Greetings from CPA Australia.

As you are all aware, the CPA Australia Internship Program for Passport students is now open for registration. The program is really about helping Passport students find relevant professional experience with great employers in Malaysia. We have more participating organisations this year including the Big 4's, second tier accounting/audit firms, banking and financial institutions and other renowned corporations. In past programs, many students have been offered ongoing work or graduate positions as a result of their placement as an intern. It is an excellent opportunity for Passport students as it gives them a head start to the working world and differentiates themselves from their peers.

All placements are paid professional experience roles that will take place for 6 – 12 weeks from 17 November 2008 to 2 March 2009. Registration is free, however you need to be a CPA Passport student. Joining CPA Passport is also free. There are a number of paid placements across a range of industries available. Each student can apply for a maximum of four placements.
Registration is now open and will close on Friday, 17 October 2008.

We would like to seek your assistance to actively encourage your students and get their career off to a flying start by registering for the CPA Australia Internship Program. Wait! Wait! Wait! There is more on the "Business with a heart"

Oh! Hi everyone!

First and foremost, I would like to thank all our committee members ( Rinesh, The Commander; Charismatic Charisma; The banker, Wenny; Meng Kwong, the stern one; our hot C&S officer Sze Mei)and our very own passionate Monashians for attending this conference. [Thx] I would like to share some of our experience and insights with you guys who missed it. So bear with me=)

Blown away
I do not believe that high schoolers can pull off with such performance. No way! (clear speech, good intonation, neat appearance and professional execution). [They’re good]

All the proceeds (every RM 10 collected by each and every participant) went to SMK Bandar Sunway. “Charity that we do” [Proud]

The Body Shop
Inspiring

CSR is about long term commitment and not on ad-hoc basis. [True...True]
One of CSR initiative that The Body Shop do is that they engage in community trade by offering commodity price. The Body Shop buys the supplies straight from the farmers rather than through intermediaries and they pay them the same price as they would pay to the intermediaries. Allows the poor to get richer and prevents second-hand ripped off.

Corporate sustainability- what ever that HSBC do would be so that the future gen can survive and sustain themselves in the future.

BAD NEWS: "HSBC is the hardest bank to apply for credit cards. We do not grant credit card to students and those monthly income below RM 2,000, " said Ms Elizabeth Wee, Head, Group Communications and Corporate Sustainability, HSBC Malaysia. [Sob..Sob =( ]

DIGI
Surprising. WOW!
Same benefits and same std of excellence to all its employees regardless of the employee's seniority. Senior manager wants to be better rewarded with benefits compare the subordinates. C'mon it is true, do you want to get the same leave days and stay in same hotels as ur subordinates when you're a senior manager? This is a point worth pondering about. [Think and Think hard]

Creative company not because of their "yellow man" advertisement but because the way they make their employees feel at home. DIGI actually brought the employee's kids to paint and decorate their headquarter!! Imagine going up the stairs with walls painted by your own child! [Creative...Hope it’s not an eye sore]

DIGI also encourages car pooling to reduce carbon emission. e.g if you carpool, then you can park inside and if not, pls park outside. Good luck with walking a long way ya:) [wished that Monash does it as well..can some1 propose to Monash??]

The Stompers Performance
Heart(s) pounding. No kidding!
Note 1: They actually make sound with stuff (chairs , ladders, cooking utensils and umm, their body parts). (In case, u do not know who are they and what they do)

Interactive activity. We stand up and clap and thump at their instruction. We even end up competing with the right side of the MPH hall and we won!! Yeah!!

Glad. Just glad.
The whole conference was a success and we gain a lot of valuable insights on how organizations can be socially responsible. [Bliss]

Take my words
I wish to remind you guys that "The world is full of evil, it is not the person doing it but it is the people sitting around and doing nothing." So do something for our mother earth, no matter how big or how small your contribution may be, switch off electrical appliances when not in use, reduce the use of plastic bags and recycle unused materials. Believe me, it matters.

I have seen irresponsible company releases toxicated brown fumes at night. I do not want to mention names, u know who u are. I hereby wish u best of luck. One day, the authority will find you. If they don't, the consumer organization and the consumer will!!! [If they don’t, I will]

We Gave & We Received

So, as you can see from the previous entry by Mei (wow, so efficient can! This is the MACC committee attitude man! *clap clap*), some of us attended this Business with a Heart talk by CPA Malaysia, topic being Undergraduate Business Student Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility.

The program started at early 8:15am, and lasted till early evening. Indeed, one reaps how much one sows. Despite having to sacrifice our sleep, I'm sure we all have gotten something valuable back.

For myself, I am touched seeing how those participating companies are trying to do in return for the society, having corporate social responsibility.

We were definitely inspired by those companies, and taking them as examples, we at MACC would try our best to do something good for our fellow students as well. =)

The refreshments and lunch were really good, can ask Wenny to re-confirm my statment, haha. So, besides the talk, the people we got to know, we were also treated to some entertainment! A drama skit in-line with the topic by Sunway Perfoming Arts students, choral performance by a group a highschool students titled "Why Men, Why?", and a wonderful perfomance by The Stompers KL!

They were really good, and only a quarter of them performed. Imagine what amazing performance it will be if the whole troupe was there!

Ok ok, since it was a Business with a Heart conference, all about being generous and giving back, and that we are nice and generous people, here's super short clip of the performance by The Stompers KL.

HI to everyone out there !

Here comes the latest news from MACC again.

6 September, a few of the MACC members attended the first ever undergraduate business student conference on corporate social responsibility with the title Business with a heart. This was organized by a few bodies such as Sunway University College, Sunway group, CPA Australia and KPMG. Glad that all these members sacrificed their beautiful weekend morning to represent Sunway Monash Campus for this conference. *salute*

Hello to all you beautiful people out there!

Wow, it has been about a month since the new committee members of Monash Accounting Club (MACC) been chosen.

During the past month, we organized a talk by PWC, held crazy meetings to think of what can we do for the students, and now a blog! And there will actually be more to come in future!

On 15th August, we inivited PWC to come give a talk on Why Be An Accountant? In conjunction of being our 1st event, we decided to make it free-for-all, and the students turn out was extremely good, filling the lecture hall!

We'd would like to take this opportunity to thank the PWC people for giving us their precious time, and students who came for this event. Without you students coming, it would not have been a success. So, a big thanks to y'all!
